What we do
We provide financial assistance for people who want to go to university or college. To do this we offer loans and non repayable grants for studying and living. We also provide loans for tuition fees, which we pay directly to the university or college.
We're a public sector organisation, we don't make a profit. The repayments we collect go back to the government, helping to fund future students. We provide a service to over 3 million customers, we pay out over £5billion a year in loans and grants and we have over 1800 employees across four sites, UK wide.
Everything we do is centred on helping our customers to fulfil their ambitions and potential through education.
Who we help
For most students in the UK we offer maintenance loans and grants to help cover their living costs, as well as loans for their tuition fees. We pay the maintenance loans and grants directly into their bank accounts at the start of each term, and the tuition fees direct to their university or college.
Students only start to repay their loans once they've left higher education and are earning more than £1,250 per month. The interest on their loans is linked to the rate of inflation. Grants are non-repayable.
Our people
We operate from four business centres, where we employ over 1800 people. We are flexible and family-friendly, and we place high value on training and development. Good customer service is our guiding principle, while advanced technology is a feature of almost everything we do. We've been an Investor in People for 9 years.
